Who You Know
They say it’s all about who you know. In the shadows, that’s more true than anywhere else. Knowing just the right person to help you out in just the right situation can spell the difference between a successful ’run and getting your damned fool self seriously glitched, if not outright blanked.
From the lowliest bum on the street corner passing you bits about what gang hit what other gang’s turf, to the hard-nosed beat cop out to make a few extra bucks looking the other way, to the bubble-headed club hopper you slotted last weekend when you were out of your mind on tequila to that Mafiosa consiglieri whose ear you’ve gotten, anybody and everybody you meet can be a invaluable source of information and aid.
The main thing they all have in common is that they can do something for you. It might be providing some of the information needed to get things started, or knowledge of some subject important to the ‘run you’re taking. It might be providing access to people that you don’t know but need to talk to, for whatever reason. It might be using their connections to find someone willing to sell something you want (or buy something you want to get rid of). It might be providing you with a little help in the form of a favor or three.
Get to know the people who inhabit the shadows you’ve taken to calling home. Do favors for people, and you might just get favors in return one day when you need them most. But always keep in mind that a contact has a life of their own. They might not always be available when you want them to be, and those favors you keep asking for? Well, they might come back to haunt you when you least expect it.
The rules for using Contacts may be found in the Core Rules (p. 388).
